Irons
One of the most important ways
people can make a good first impression is to look their best. Whether going for a job interview,
meeting someone new on a first date, or attending a fancy dinner or special concert, looking well
put together is essential in gaining other people’s respect.
Although some people try to
downplay the importance of appearance and dress, it is engrained into the culture. Showing up
somewhere with wrinkled clothing, an un-tucked shirt, or a poorly fitted outfit will give the
impression that you do not take pride in your appearance. One of the easiest ways to prevent this
from occurring and to keep your clothes looking good is to purchase and use a clothes
iron.

Traditionally, clothes irons were made from
solid slabs of metal with a wooden handle attached. They were warmed up in a roaring fire and then used to press
wrinkles out of garments. Today, clothes irons are much more technologically advanced, but the basic premise is the
same.
Clothes irons are now usually made mainly of
plastic, which comprises the handle and majority of the body of the iron. The ironing area itself is a thin,
lightweight piece of metal that heats up. Irons are heated by electricity obtained through a cord from an
electrical outlet in the wall.
Clothes irons today have many more features
than the ones used by our ancestors. There are many different heat settings that can be changed, depending on the
type of fabric being ironed. Cotton fabrics require the highest heat setting, while more delicate fabrics like silk
do not need as much heat in order to be ironed. For tougher wrinkles, steam and heated water can be sprayed from
holes in the metal plates and from the plastic body of the iron; higher end variations of the clothes iron are
the steam iron presses.
For frequent travelers, irons are
available that are smaller than average clothes irons used in the home. Many times, they are designed so that the
handle folds over onto the body of the iron itself, minimizing the amount of space it takes up in one’s
luggage.
Irons can be purchased in the home products
sections of stores like Target and Wal-Mart. They can also sometimes be found in discount home good stores like
T.J.Maxx and Marshalls. Also, fabric stores like Hancock Fabrics carry a range of clothes irons. They can also be
found on the Internet from retailers like Amazon.com and Overstock.com.
